Just use those products your way!

Hello, Sharmaine Kruijver here today
Sometimes you can look at a scrap product and think… how will I use that? Sometimes you will have some scraps lying around on your table, screaming to be used. Sometimes you will have leftover products that don’t seem to fit with anything else. And, sometimes you just need to put your thoughts aside and just use the products, your way.
For this page I used the Heidi Swapp pattern paper. It was too bright for my page so I softened it with some white paint (you could also use gesso).I also used pieces left over from my previous pages, making them work for me.

Adding some journaling strips to allow the words speak the story I wanted to tell.

Using stickers that would ordinarily sit in my stash for… who knows how long.

Using die cuts and scraps that I had punched holes out of.

Adding a little pen, here and there, to give the leftovers new life.

The end result…

A page that is me and products that say the words I wanted to say.
I hope this inspires you to see products in a different light, to extend and rejuvenate and to find new products that might have the “words” you were looking for.

Tutorial ~ Think outside your box, use your stash...

Do you look at all your supplies and wish you could customize it to fit your work?
Do you look at all your stash and wonder how you will ever use it all?
Today I am going to share a couple of things that, I hope, will help you use those things up!
First thing is to pull out your circle punch.
I used my punch to change some die cuts and stickers, so they would better suit my purpose.

I punched square tags and cut stickers and I even pulled out my smaller circle punch and put it to use.

I also love incorporating packaging into my layouts, so the little card from Mei Li Paperie even had a turn with my circle punch!

So hands up who has an overabundance of journal cards or the likes?? Layering is a great way to use up your excess. I pull out the ones I want to use and start putting them all together. Again, don't forget to include the packaging!

A little tip for making sure things are straight.., Lay everything down on a lined craft mat. Once I was happy with my layers I used some double sided tape to stick things down

I add a staple to the middle, this will be hidden by my photo later. The staple just keeps everything together.

After adhering all of this to my page I then stuck down the punched circles and die cuts. Some of these I inked around the edge, some I “popped” with foam tape.

The next step was to add my title, embellishments and journal strips.

A few other tips?Cut your die cuts and journaling tags, then you'll stretch your stash even further. Using thread and splashes of ink adds some more interest to your page.

Don’t be too worried about how many layers you create. Giving new life to your older stash means you can now add new things to your supplies!

It also means you end up with another scrap page completed. And you have to be happy with that!
Happy creating everyone
Sharmaine

June Colour Challenge

We are just coming out of a hot and sunny long weekend here celebrating the dragon boat festival. There were activities all over Hong Kong and the world. Did any of you celebrate?
Its time for our next colour challenge, but first we want to say thanks to those who played along with our first one. We loved to see what you all created and can't wait to see how this bright one inspires you.
We asked our guest designer Sharmaine Kruijver to give it a go to help you get started. Here is what she created.
What an awesome layout. The story really makes me laugh as I believe my mom has a similar one about me and a certain hottie from New Kids on the Block. I love how she used black ink to mimic the feel of the colour palettes background. So shows us how this inspired you! Link your layout here by June 17th and you could win a Chic Tags Cloud 9 prize pack!
Here is how to play along:
- You can submit ANY kind of project that you were inspired to create such as layouts, cards, project life fillers
- The winner of the prize will be randomly drawn and our 3 favourite layouts be featured on the blog.
- Our challenge will run until June 17th at 11:55pm Hong Kong time.
- Link your creation below by entering a link to your blog post or online gallery sharing your work.
- Please no back-linking.  This is for newly created projects only.  Any back-links will be be disqualified.
- If you don't have a blog or online gallery, alternatively you can post a photo of your work on our facebook page. Please make sure you include " Mei Li June colour Challenge" somewhere in the post.

Introducing our June Guest Designer!

Wow its June already and with that comes scorching heat here in Hong Kong. We also see loads of you posting about upcoming summer events that look exciting... and are jealous of our Aussie and Kiwi friends and their coming winter with cool temps! What's also exciting about June is we have the lovely and talented Sharmaine Kruijver joining us as our June guest designer. So here she is.. please welcome Sharmaine!

Hello everyone, it’s so lovely to be here guesting with Mei Li Paperie. I’m Sharmaine from Tasmania, Australia. I am married to wonderful Dave and we have 4 daughters, aged 9,11,13 and 15. At least 2 days a week you’ll find me at school working with as a Teacher’s Aide. I enjoy a cup of coffee, being taken out for dinner and spending time with people. I have a playlist made up of all types of music genres and my pinterest boards are just as diverse as my music playlist.  I have always had a love affair with paper and in 2005 a friend showed me how to make my first scrapbook page. I was hooked! I love being able to create art by telling a story. Right now my favourite products are water colour paint, die cuts and my old favourite, journal strips created with my typewriter. I love pattern paper and colour and am beyond thrilled to be able to share some creations with you here, thank you Mei Li Paperie!

We love Sharmaines work and are so excited that she will be with us all month to inspire. You can also check out her blog to see more of her work. Make sure you check back on June 3rd for our next colour challenge with Sharmaine where we will be giving away a great prize!
